Install and requirements
Requirements
| Mac | Apple silicon |
| macOS | 14 Sonoma or later. Some on-device features need a newer version of macOS. |
| Memory | 8 GB for the recommended local model. Larger local models need 16 or 32 GB. |
| Models | A local model download, a signed-in Claude Code or Codex, or an API key. You need at least one. |
| Account | No Manwe account. Cloud models and connected services may need their own accounts or keys. |
| Internet | Needed for cloud models, research, connected services, sharing and Telegram. A local model can answer offline. |
| Current version | 0.9.93, build 31. Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. |
Manwe isn't available for Windows or Linux.
Install
- Download Manwe 0.9.93 and open the disk image.
- Drag Manwe to Applications, then open it from there.
- During setup, choose how to run your models: a model on your Mac, a subscription you already have through a signed-in Claude Code or Codex, or your own API key. You can change this later in Settings. Models and providers compares the three.
For a local model, follow the memory guidance in the model list; larger models need more memory, and some options are experimental.
A first request
Open a new chat, check the model in the composer, and write the outcome you want. Attach a file if the task depends on one. Then ask for whatever change would make the answer useful to you. Asking well covers what helps most.
